Insight

Media Impact Monitor is an interactive data dashboard that enables protest groups and NGOs to evaluate their impact on public discourse. By examining a wide range of media sources—from newspapers and social media to parliamentary debates—the tool provides a detailed overview of how activism shapes public conversations. The dashboard translates complex data into clear insights, supporting organizations in understanding the visibility and resonance of their actions. Media Impact Monitor helps make the effects of activism on public debate both measurable and accessible.

Process

The development process began with user research, including interviews with activist organizations around the world to identify their specific needs and challenges. Our team adopted an agile Kanban workflow, holding weekly standups to stay aligned and responsive throughout the project. We created interactive click prototypes early on, collecting feedback to refine both the user experience and the dashboard’s core features. The final product aggregates live data from multiple sources, transforming it into meaningful visualizations and metrics that highlight the impact of protests and campaigns as they unfold.

Technically, the dashboard was built with Next.js, utilizing React Server Components and Suspense to deliver a fast, responsive interface. TanStack Query was used for efficient, real-time data fetching, ensuring users always have up-to-date information. This stack allowed us to build a robust and scalable application, capable of handling dynamic data flows and presenting them in a way that is both intuitive and actionable for users.

Personal role

In this project, I was responsible for interface design, frontend architecture, and ensuring a seamless user experience. I translated user requirements into interactive, easy-to-navigate components and implemented the dashboard using modern web technologies. Collaborating closely with the data science team, I focused on making complex datasets accessible and meaningful for end users.
